Search tips

Phrases, filters, search windows and the records covered by TabledHQ search.

The Search page looks through the parliamentary and policy records held by TabledHQ. Every result includes a link to the original source record.

Search with words and phrases

Enter a word, several words or a phrase. You can combine terms:

  • AND means both terms must appear: housing AND rent.
  • OR means either term can appear: tenancy OR tenant.
  • NOT excludes a term: housing NOT Scotland.
  • Quotation marks keep words together as a phrase: "social housing".

Use a few specific terms first. If there are no results, try fewer words or use OR between alternatives. If there are too many results, add a second term or an exact phrase.

The search input is bounded and safely interpreted. Search text is not treated as raw database syntax.

Filter by source

Use the Source filter to narrow results to one source or a source group, such as bills, debates, written questions, consultations or legislation. The filter changes which records are shown; it does not change the underlying source data.

You can return to All sources when you want a wider result set. The available source list follows the sources that TabledHQ currently holds and exposes for search.

Search windows and dates

Search uses a rolling window based on your plan:

  • Free: records from the last 30 days.
  • Individual: records from the last 365 days.

The date shown beside a result is the date recorded by its source. The window is calculated when the search runs, so it is not a promise that every source has a record for every day.

There is currently no custom from-and-to date picker on the Search page. To narrow results, add more words or put a phrase in quotes.

What full-text search covers

TabledHQ searches the title and text held for active searchable sources. This includes records such as:

  • bills and Hansard debates;
  • written questions and statements;
  • divisions, committees and statutory instruments;
  • Early Day Motions, petitions and consultations;
  • legislation and records from the devolved legislatures where available.

The source filter and current data availability determine what appears. A result may be missing or late if the source has not yet supplied it, a record falls outside your plan window, or the record contains little searchable text.

Check the original record

TabledHQ is a monitor, not an official record. Open the source link before relying on a result, especially when a record may have been updated or corrected.
